122 years ago, in 1902, “Bobby” Gilbert, a landowner in the territory donated land for the Arizona Eastern Railway for the rail line that would run between Phoenix and Florence, Arizona the county seat situated close to the Gila River which was an important agricultural area at that time.

In 1912, after a group of Mormons who had fled Mexico due to the actions of Pancho Villa and his forces settled in Gilbert. Thus began the formation of this vital farming community which was Incorporated on July 6, 1920. Continued growth was ignited by the rail line and construction projects throughout the state including the Roosevelt Dam. I

Gilbert was known as the “Hay Capital of the World” until the late 1920s.

The vibe of Gilbert can now be seen as “making hay” in all the best ways.  The idiom, to make hay being about making the most of an opportunity. This town has absolutely made the most out of the amazing growth in the Southeast Valley and reimagined itself from a farming community into a desirable place for both families and businesses to call home.

In fact, in 2019, the town of Gilbert ranked highly on multiple national surveys related to safety, livability and family life; it was named the fourth-safest (of 182 communities), 12th-most livable town, and seventh-best place to raise a family in the U.S. Which makes it a terrific place for Havenly Communities to develop and bring The Havenly Gilbert to life!
